Our mission is to make early identification of visual processing disorders accessible to all children

Our Story

One in five children faces a challenge from an undetected a visual processing issues that quietly hinders their ability to learn, putting them at risk of falling behind. For too many, this remains hidden for years, as traditional testing methods are typically introduced after learning gaps surface, are costly and require specialists, leading to a late diagnosis. By then, it’s harder to turn things around.

At Vis-CAT, we believe every child deserves a fair start. That’s why we created a simple, effective tool to identify visual processing challenges early on, empowering parents and educators to make a real difference from the start. By understanding and addressing these unique needs in early childhood, we can help children unlock their full potential, giving them a brighter, more confident path to learning and growth.

Together, we can change lives—one child at a time.

WHAT IS a VISUAL PROCESSING Disorder

Visual Processing Disorder impacts kids' ability to process what they see. It's a cognitive issue.

Its the brain, not the eyes

A visual processing disorder is a reduced ability to process visual information. It’s not a problem with clarity of vision but rather how visual information is interpreted. A child may struggle to distinguish between background, foreground, position and size despite having good eyesight. This condition is not well understood and the symptoms mistaken for other difficulties.

MEET Vis-CAT: THE VISUAL COGNITION ASSESSMENT TOOL

This is VistCat a specialised platform designed to assess children for visual processing disorders.

Meet Vis-CAT. An online app designed to open doors for children who may struggle with undetected visual processing challenges. By digitiising a trusted testing method, we make early detection accessible to families and educators everywhere—no specialist required. This tool doesn’t replace experts; instead, it empowers early intervention and referral pathways.

Kids can take the test themselves with near instantaneous results. If a child shows signs of a visual processing issue, they can quickly be referred to a specialist for further support. Educators can also adjust teaching methods to accommodate the issue.

With Vis-CAT and a supportive community, we’re giving children the chance to overcome obstacles early so they can thrive and reach their fullest potential.

Vis-CAT's approach is grounded in evidence-based research. Led by our founder, Dr. Christine Nearchou (Optometrist), who developed the Novel Dot Pattern (NDPA) test—a cognitive screening tool designed for children aged 5 to 12. This innovative test evaluates visual sequencing and cognitive processing skills in a simple dot pattern exercise. Vis-CAT’s digitalises this approach simplifying early tests even further.

In a study conducted across Chennai schools in 2018 and 2019, the NDPA test proved to be an effective, easy-to-administer alternative to traditional. These results highlight NDPA’s potential to transform early detection of learning-related vision issues, giving children the support they need, when it matters most.
